The World’s Most Amazing Landmarks

Some landmarks are amazing, and here are a bunch of them for you to marvel at.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is a monument in Paris, France built to commemorate and honour those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. On the inside and top of the arc are all the names of the generals and all the wars fought. Underneath it is the tomb of the “Unknown Soldier” from World War I. The Arc de Triomphe is situated on the western end of the Champs-Élysées.

Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is another landmark based in Paris, France, just beside the Seine River. The tower has become a global icon of France and is one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The structure, including the antenna, is 325m tall, and has been visited by more than 200,000,000 people since it was completed in 1889. This is equivalent to 81 floors of a conventional building.

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum, located in Agra in India. It was built under Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favourite wife. While the white domed marble and tile mausoleum is most familiar, Taj Mahal is an integrated symmetric complex of structures that was completed around 1648.

Stonehenge

Not much is known about the history of Stonehenge. Experts estimate that it was constructed around 2400-2200 BC, though we’re not entirely sure why. Burial remains have been excavated, and some have been found to be as old as 5000 years, when the first ditches were being dug around the monument. Throughout history, Stonehenge has been routinely reconstructed.

Wave Rock

Wave Rock is a natural large stone formation in Western Australia near the town of Hyden. The formation is said to be many millions of years old and contains strips of grey and red granite in the wave formation. Its rounded wave-like shape, formed by weathering and water erosion, reaches 15 metres in height and extends 110 metres in length.
